What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small titanium posts (man- made roots) which are placed into the jaw bone where teeth are missing. The bone integrates with the titanium creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Implants can help preserve your facial structure and appearance preventing the bone from deteriorating which occurs when teeth are missing.
Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a great option for people who are self-conscious about missing teeth, wear dentures that may be uncomfortable, or don’t want to have good tooth structure removed to place a bridge.
Why Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an effective way to replace missing teeth. They are designed to blend in with other teeth and are an excellent option for restoring your smile in the long run.
What is the Process of Dental Implants?
- The first step is to have the implant placed in the jawbone by Dr. Pastrell.
- The next step is for the bone around the implant to heal. This is called osseointegration. The bone grows around the implant and holds it in place. This is what makes the implant strong. Osseointegration means “combines with the bone” and takes up to several months.
- Lastly, we place the artificial tooth or teeth. Dr. Pastrell will customize a new tooth for you called a dental crown. This is designed to blend in with your other teeth. The replacement teeth can take some time to make so you may be given a temporary crown in the meantime.
